How Does Alcohol Affect The Risk Of Cancer
Researchers have hypothesized multiple ways that alcohol may increase the risk of cancer, including
- metabolizing ethanol in alcoholic drinks to acetaldehyde, which is a toxic chemical and a probable human carcinogen acetaldehyde can damage both DNA and proteins
- generating reactive oxygen species , which can damage DNA, proteins, and lipids in the body through a process called oxidation
- impairing the bodys ability to break down and absorb a variety of nutrients that may be associated with cancer risk, including vitamin A nutrients in the vitamin B complex, such as folate vitamin C vitamin D vitamin E and carotenoids
- increasing blood levels of estrogen, a sex hormone linked to the risk of breast cancer
The mechanisms by which alcohol consumption may decrease the risks of some cancers are not understood and may be indirect.

How Does The Combination Of Alcohol And Tobacco Affect Cancer Risk
Epidemiologic research shows that people who use both alcohol and tobacco have much greater risks of developing cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx , larynx, and esophagus than people who use either alcohol or tobacco alone. In fact, for oral and pharyngeal cancers, the risks associated with using both alcohol and tobacco are multiplicative that is, they are greater than would be expected from adding the individual risks associated with alcohol and tobacco together .
Pancreatitis Treatment: Is It Curable
If you experience an incident of acute alcohol-induced pancreatitis, it is recommended that you immediately stop alcohol consumption and consult your doctor to develop a diet plan that meets your health needs. This is your best chance to avoid future incidents of acute pancreatitis and lower your risk for chronic pancreatitis. If you develop chronic alcohol-induced pancreatitis it may be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse the damage to your pancreas. Some people with chronic pancreatitis require lifelong medication to aid in digestion and blood sugar regulation.
Regardless of whether you have acute or chronic pancreatitis, the single most important thing to do is to stop using alcohol as soon as possible. If you have an alcohol use disorder, characterized by an uncontrollable use of alcohol despite negative consequences, and find it difficult to stop drinking, you should seek treatment from a professional rehab center. Heavy Drinking Tied To Pancreatic Cancer Deaths
By Kerry Grens, Reuters Health

NEW YORK – Having three or more drinks of hard liquor each day is linked to a greater risk of dying from pancreatic cancer, according to a study published this week.
The researchers focused on people who were non-smokers, and found that the risk of cancer death was 36 percent higher among those who drank liquor heavily.
Beer and wine were not linked to pancreatic cancer deaths.
Susan Gapstur, the vice president of epidemiology at the American Cancer Society, and the lead researcher on this study, said its unclear whether its the type of beverage that matters, or the amount of alcohol in the drink.
Gapstur and her colleagues used survey data from more than a million people, including more than 400,000 who had never smoked. The participants completed a questionnaire each year starting in 1982, as part of the American Cancer Societys Cancer Prevention Study II.
People in the study reported how many drinks they had each day, but not how much alcohol was in them.
Gapstur said previous research suggests that people tend to pour more hard liquor than what is considered the standard amount for one drink, a shot and a half.
Those who drink hard liquor may be consuming more alcohol per drink than those who drink beer or wine, Gapstur told Reuters Health.

What Exactly Is The Pancreas
Your pancreas is a large gland that produces enzymes and hormones that assist in the digestion of food. Its located deep in your abdomen.
Part of your pancreas sits between your stomach and your spine, and the other part rests against the curve of the first part of your small intestine .
The position of the pancreas makes it extremely difficult to be felt by pressing on the abdomen .
This is a primary reason why a tumor can often grow undetected until the symptoms of pancreatic cancer appear. Pancreatic cancer can interfere with the function of the pancreas or other nearby organs, such as the gallbladder, stomach or liver.
- pain in your upper abdomen or back
- unintended weight loss

Foods That Contribute To A Healthy Pancreas
- Garlic naturally reduces the amount of sugar in the blood as well as stimulating the pancreas to produce hormones.
- Spinach contains iron and vitamin B which are essential for proper pancreatic function. It reduces inflammation.
- Kale and Swiss chard are also heroes here.
- Broccoli because of its sulphur content it detoxifies the pancreas.
- Red grapes contain antioxidants such as resveratrol which protects tissues from damage as well as blood vessel damage.
- Sweet potatoes rich in beta-carotene which maintains pancreatic cell and hormone regulation.
- Blueberries encourage the self destruction of cancer cells.
- Yogurt containing probiotics it helps the quality of the digestive system.
- Reishi mushrooms soothe pancreatic inflammation and swelling.
- Licorice eases inflammation in the pancreas and reduces blood sugar levels.
- Horseradish due to its concentration of glucosinolates it reduces the growth of cancerous tumors and eliminates carcinogens that could cause pancreatic cancer.
- Lemon containing vitamin C which counteracts cell damage in the pancreas. Added bonus they are also rich in magnesium which aids in the creation of pancreatic enzymes.
- Goldenseal boosts the function and capacity of the pancreas plus strengthens the pancreatic beta cells.
Dangers Of Drinking Alcohol Among Patients With Pancreatitis
Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency develops early in the clinical presentation of pancreatitis, which may progress, especially with continuous consumption of alcohol.
The damage to the pancreas becomes more rapid and severe causing chronic alcohol pancreatitis.
There will be continuous inflammation. Gradual loss of digestive and insulin functions will eventually cause malabsorption, weight loss, and malnutrition.
Diabetes is also a major complication. Alcohol interferes with the bodyâs natural ability to keep the blood sugar level stable. Different types of alcoholic drinks have different levels of carbohydrates, though, and patients can be affected in several ways.
With continuous consumption of alcohol, the liver is being prevented from producing glucose, which can cause extremely low blood sugar, also known as hypoglycemia. If not given attention immediately and properly, this can be fatal.
A lot of patients also develop hypoxia because cells are not receiving enough oxygen. Excessive vomiting after drinking alcohol could also be a complication.
Others show a relation between the development of a cyst on pancreas and alcohol. Some patients cause fluid and debris to collect in cyst-like pockets in the gland. If they rupture, there will be an infection and internal bleeding.

Is Alcoholic Pancreatitis Reversible
Yes, alcoholic pancreatitis is reversible if you stop drinking alcohol. However, the damage thats been done to your pancreas may not always be able to be completely reversed. In some cases, the damage may be permanent. If you have chronic alcoholic pancreatitis, its important to get treatment as soon as possible. The earlier you get treatment, the better your chances are of reversing the damage and preventing further complications.
However, if your pancreas has been severely damaged, you may need to have surgery to remove part of the organ. In some cases, a pancreas transplant may be necessary. This will lead to a life-long need for immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection of the transplant.
What Is The Pancreas
The pancreas is a large organ located in the back of the abdomen, directly behind the stomach. It has several important functions, including both the release of digestive enzymes and exocrine hormones involved with blood sugar regulation.1
For its digestive role, a specialized group of cells within the pancreas produce digestive enzymes that are secreted into the small intestine through the pancreatic ducts.2 These enzymes aid in the digestion of carbohydrates and proteins and help to break down fats.
To carry out its role in blood sugar regulation the pancreas produces two crucial hormonesinsulin and glucagon. When blood sugar is too high, the pancreas secretes insulin into the bloodstream. When blood sugar levels are too low, the pancreas releases glucagon. A proper balance of blood sugar levels is crucial for the functions of key organs such as the brain, liver, and kidneys, and poorly regulated blood sugar can produce symptoms associated with diabetes.
