Ive had 3 surgeries for Ovarian Cycts and Endometriosis then I had total hysterectomy in Oct. but still feeling like this and its horrible. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions?? I need answers, the doctors ive been seeing dont know whats wrong, thinking about heading to Mayo in Rochester. Any help or familiar stories would be helpful. Thanks

What Is Abdominal Pain Symptoms Causes Diagnosis Treatment And Prevention

Most people experience abdominal discomfort or pain at some point in their lives. Abdominal pain is usually felt in the part of the trunk below the ribs, above the pelvis and the groin. It can range in intensity from a mild ache to severe, disabling pain.

While abdominal pain isnt normal, it isnt necessarily serious, and it often resolves itself.

A Food Allergy Or Intolerance

Food allergies and intolerances are the most common reason behind stomach pain after eating. Symptoms such as gas, bloating, unusual burps, cramping, and diarrhea indicate that you have eaten something that has not digested well in your stomach.

Allergies occur when the body mistakes some food for a harmful foreign invader, and your immune system releases antibodies to fight it. This immune response can cause an array of symptoms.

Common allergens include:

Food intolerance occurs when the digestive system gets irritated by a particular food or cannot digest it properly. Unlike an allergy, there is no immune system response involved in food intolerance which results when your stomach cannot process specific foods or ingredients.

Foods that are known to cause intolerance include:

  • Lactose sensitivity to milk or dairy products
  • Gluten a protein that is present in grains such as wheat, barley, and others
  • FODMAPs sensitivity to foods that contain different types of fermentable carbohydrates

If these intolerances are not significant, these conditions can go undiagnosed for years. If you notice signs of stomach pain every time you consume a specific food item, it may be coming from an allergy or intolerance and must be tested by a doctor.

The most important things you can do to feel better faster are rest and staying well hydrated. Between diarrhea and vomiting, your body loses a lot of water and electrolytes. If your belly is still upset, you can take small, frequent sips of water, sports drinks, juice or broth, or chew on ice chips. It is important to know that water alone may not be enough to keep you hydrated in severe cases of diarrhea so make sure to take in electrolyte balance hydration . Eat a normal diet when you feel hungry again.

Symptoms Related To Stomach Pain

The symptoms that come with stomach pain depend on whats causing the stomach pain.

For example, if the stomach pain comes with symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, the problem could be gastroenteritis or food poisoning.

Stomach cramps and general stomach pain might be associated with food intolerance, excess wind, indigestion and bloating.

Tummy pain that doesnt go away could be constipation or a urinary tract infection. Children with a urinary tract infection might also have pain when doing a wee and be doing more wees than normal. They might also have a fever, be vomiting and feel irritable.

Tummy pain might also be associated with pneumonia or other respiratory infections. In this case, your child will probably also have a fever, cough and possibly a sore throat.

A sore tummy is more likely to be a sign of something serious if it wakes your child up, or if the pain is in a specific area of the abdomen, away from your childs belly button. For example, in appendicitis, the pain is usually sharp, and the pain often starts in the middle then moves to the lower right section of the abdomen. Your child might also have fever, loss of appetite and vomiting.

With all types of stomach pain, theres a risk that your child will become dehydrated. You should watch for signs of dehydration, including sunken eyes, less urination than usual, lethargy and weight loss.

Severe Nausea After Eating

Nausea is one of the most common symptoms of gallstone disease. Severe nausea after eating fatty foods without significant stomach pain can be the first sign of a bad gallbladder.

Nausea is common with other gut diseases such as Acid reflux, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and others. Although it is an important cause of nausea, the gallbladder is often overseen as a cause of nausea.

Nausea is isolated or associated with typical biliary colic . Isolated intense nausea after eating should raise the suspicion of a bad gallbladder.
