Are Firmer Pillows Better For Neck Pain
Typically yes, because a firmer pillow keeps your head at the same height all night instead of compressing down and moving your neck out of neutral alignment, says Dr. Lin. A firmer pillow is best for neck pain if you sleep on your side, and a firm pillow with a low loft is good for neck pain if you sleep on your back. If you sleep on your stomach, a plush, low-loft pillow is better to keep your spine in alignment. However, sleeping on your stomach can exacerbate or cause entirely new neck stiffness, so if you already have neck pain, you should consider switching to sleeping on your side or back.

What Causes Gas In The Digestive Tract
Gas in the digestive tract comes from two sources:
Aerophagia . This is usually caused by eating or drinking rapidly, chewing gum, smoking, or wearing loose dentures.
Belching is the way most swallowed air leaves the stomach. The remaining gas is partially absorbed into the small intestine and a small amount goes into the large intestine and is released through the rectum.
Breakdown of certain undigested foods by harmless bacteria naturally present in the large intestine Some carbohydrates are not digested or absorbed in the small intestine because of a shortage or absence of certain enzymes. The undigested or unabsorbed food then passes into the large intestine, where harmless and normal bacteria break down the food. This process produces hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and, in about one-third of all people, methane gases, which are released through the rectum.
Investigating Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms
Investigating pancreatic cancer can be a complex process. If you are concerned about your symptoms, it may be helpful for you and your GP to track your symptoms using our symptom diary.
When your GP examines you, they may look for jaundice , feel your tummy and send blood or urine samples to be analysed. If your symptoms include abdominal pain, weight loss and jaundice together then you should be referred to the hospital as urgent. This does not mean that you certainly have pancreatic cancer, but your symptoms need to be investigated quickly.

How Is Abdominal Pain Diagnosed
Your healthcare provider will ask you detailed questions about your pain. Theyll want to know:
- Where you feel it.
- How long youve had it.
- If it comes and goes.
- If its getting worse.
- If it stays in one place or moves.
- What makes it better or worse.
- What other symptoms you have.
From your answers, your healthcare provider will try to determine if you need emergency treatment. Sometimes your healthcare provider will be able to tell right away that your pain is temporary and not serious. Sometimes they may suspect a more serious condition and may want to run some tests. And sometimes they wont be able to solve the mystery on the first visit. Your pain may subside, or you may have to return for further investigation.
What Causes Abdominal Pain
Common causes of abdominal pain often involve the digestive system. Relatively harmless gastrointestinal conditions include indigestion, gas and constipation. Stress and anxiety can also cause general abdominal pain. Sometimes children say they have a stomachache because they are trying to avoid a stressful or frightening situation, such as, trying to miss school to avoid issues with peers or friends.
However, it is always important to consider and rule out the possibility of physical causes, as abdominal pain can be from infection, malignancy, inflammation, trauma, obstruction, and other abnormal processes.
Life-threatening conditions, such as trauma, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and a bleeding peptic ulcer can cause abdominal pain and should be immediately evaluated in an emergency setting. Conditions involving other body systems, such as the endocrine, nervous, reproductive, and urinary systems, can also cause abdominal pain.

How Are Stomach Ulcers Diagnosed
Stomach ulcers are most commonly diagnosed by endoscopy using a flexible tube with a tiny camera that is passed into the mouth and down to the stomach. This procedure is done under general anaesthetic.
Your doctor may also order blood tests, stool tests or an x-ray. You are also likely to have tests to check for Helicobacter pylori infection. Usually this involves a breath test, or a test of the stomach lining during endoscopy.

Your Body Size And Body Type
Your height, weight, and shoulder width all come into play for what size, loft, support, and materials are best for you. Why Your Upper Stomach And Back Hurt At The Same Time
Some patients tend to undermine their abdominal pain only as indigestion, cramps, or gas that will resolve shortly. Stomach pain can be a pretty common symptom despite being highly inconvenient. But this pain can also be a sign of an underlying symptom that you should immediately address, especially when it’s coupled with back pain.
So why do you experience upper stomach and back pain together? Upper abdominal pain with back pain may be caused by underlying conditions, like thoracic radiculopathy, appendicitis, kidney stones, pancreatitis, and peptic ulcer disease. Some cases of abdominal pain can be trivial, but you might want to seek emergency care if you feel severe pain that reaches your back.

Getting Stomach And Back Pain Relief
If your lower abdominal pain and lower back pain are mild, you may benefit from taking an over-the-counter pain reliever and monitoring how you feel for a couple of days, Dr. Chang says. “However, if it’s a severe pain or if there’s fever, vomiting, dizziness or any other moderate-to-severe symptom, either call the doctor or go to urgent care or the emergency room,” he says.
In cases when you’re experiencing both lower abdominal and lower back pain, determining any abdominal causes would take priority, Dr. Chang says. “From the perspective of a spine specialist, if there’s lower abdominal pain involved, they’re better served trying to get the abdomen checked out first. And if there’s still an issue, they could see a back specialist,” he says.
If menstrual cramps are contributing to your pain, the Mayo Clinic notes that cramps can often be eased with over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, or a heating pad, among other remedies. However, if you find that menstrual cramps interfere with your life or worsen over time, or if you begin having severe menstrual cramps after turning 25, the Mayo Clinic recommends seeing your doctor.
If the cause of the pain is pelvic or gynecologic, imaging may be needed to explore potential causes further, Dr. Chang says. “Those things are usually ruled out by ultrasound or CT scan by either a gynecologic or general surgery specialist,” he says.

Signs And Symptoms Of Abdominal Bloating
Abdominal pain and bloating are considered two different symptoms. That being said, you are likely to feel both at the same time. These symptoms refer to the ache or distention felt under the gastral cavity and above your pubic bone, also called the lower and upper abdominal regions.
Its important to note that a bloated stomach is not related to gaining fat mass around the stomach or water retention. It is mainly caused by air being temporarily stuck around the abdomen.

Lower Back And Abdominal Pain
Stomach bloating and lower back pain that occurs simultaneously can be both frustrating and frightening. In most cases, the cause of lower back and abdominal pain is a relatively harmless underlying health issue. However, it is important to monitor the duration and severity of these symptoms as it may become necessary to speak with a health care professional such as a physical therapist if the pain persists.
Loss Of Interest In Food
Womens Health magazine says an early indicator of pancreatic cancer is lowered appetite, so if youre not craving food like you normally are, it could be a negative sign in some cases.
If your favorite dessert makes your stomach turn, then it could be a result of tumors putting pressure on surrounding organs including your stomach. This can create a false sense of feeling full, and you may feel sick or experience pain when eating .
What If The Cause Is Unknown
Before a doctor can treat the pain, they must determine the cause. To do this, the doctor may take a complete medical history, press on the abdomen or back to identify pain levels and position, perform blood work, or do imaging scans of the back or stomach.
There are some home remedies that a person can try to ease back pain and bloating. However, if symptoms are due to a serious condition, such as liver failure, it is essential to talk to a doctor before trying any home remedies. Some treatments may be unsafe for people in organ failure or with other conditions.
