Switch From Coffee To Tea

The Tea Room 28 Bigelow Calm Stomach

Coffee may cause digestion issues because of its high acid content and caffeine content. You may want to limit OR eliminate coffee in your tests and switch to tea for your upset stomach.

Consider tea PART of the diet. First, it can be used as your primary fluid intake instead of water. Secondly, tea will contain less caffeine than coffee. Most herbal teas contain no caffeine. A combination of regular and herbal tea consumed throughout the day will allow you to enjoy the benefits of tea without overdosing on caffeine.

Best At Bedtime: Chamomile Tea

If youre looking to catch some ZZZs, brew a cup of chamomile tea before bedtime.

The reason? The daisy-like chamomile plant contains apigenin, an antioxidant compound and snooze inducer. Apigenin attaches itself to receptors in your brain and works to reduce anxiety, building a peaceful calm that leads to drowsiness.

Chamomile basically acts as a mild tranquilizer, says Czerwony. Those sips really will help you sleep.

Valerian root tea also is a good option if youre tired of counting sheep to get some shut-eye.

Which Calming Herbs Are Best For You

Herbs for anxiety and stress relief are commonly available in grocery and health food stores as single herbs or combination remedies. You can use them in a variety of ways based on your needs and interests. Feel free to experiment and see what works best for you.

Herbs act in different ways based on the compounds they contain and your constitution. Hot herbs may not be best if you are already worked up or tend to get heated. Cooling herbs may be what you need. Likewise, if stress gets you feeling down or you feel cold, warming herbs are best. Match your symptoms to an herb’s actions for best results.

Good herb books and herbal profiles found online provide this information. Always follow dosage instructions and safety precautions for best results.

Look for blends and ready-made relaxing teas such as Tension Tamer by Celestial Seasonings or Kava Stress Relief by Yogi Teas . Many herbal stress remedies include a variety of herbs.

You can also make your own brew from loose herbs. Slow down, focus, and enjoy the ritual of making your tea. The process is relaxing and centering in and of itself.

Does Black Tea Speed Up Transit

Yes, because the theine contained in black tea is known to have a laxative effect: it speeds up intestinal transit. Black tea thus helps to combat constipation. Note that adding honey or molasses to your tea can improve its laxative properties. It is also known that another molecule present in black tea, theanine, has a relaxing effect on the brain. Stress can be responsible for certain digestive disorders. Relying on the supposed anti-stress properties of tea would be a good way to prevent this…

Theine and caffeine are in fact derived from the same molecule! The difference is that they do not have the same effects on the body. Theine stimulates and is released gradually over time, whereas caffeine excites and is available very quickly.

This is potent stuff! Slightly medicinal-tasting, very warming and soothing.. I wouldnt exactly choose it as a regular hot drink but its absolute gold if I have an upset tummy or am feeling a bit bloated or nauseous.
