And then Id notice a few days later, sometimes I, each, each time I felt a little bit nauseous for a couple of days and then Id pass a very abnormal coloured stool, as if Id got a gallstone or something, if anybody else recognises those symptoms. I wasnt jaundiced, but I just had this very funny stool, which was almost putty coloured. And I thought, Well, that is very odd. Then months, and I hadnt noticed at that time that actually I had been feeling a little bit nauseous before. But the next time it happened when I was a bit nauseous and I think, Well, I wonder if the same thing will happen again? And it did. But that was very near Christmas and I thought, Well, in my experience I know its no good going to ones GP round about Christmas. In the early stages, a tumour in the pancreas doesn’t usually cause any symptoms, which can make it difficult to diagnose.

What Causes Pancreatic Cancer
The exact cause of pancreatic cancer is unknown. Pancreatic cancer occurs when the cells in the pancreas develop changes in their DNA. The mutated abnormal cells grow uncontrollably and eventually forms a tumor.
The risk of pancreatic cancer increases with the following factors.
- Diet high in red meat and fat
- Diet low in fruits and vegetables
- Family history of pancreatic cancer
- Hereditary conditions such as BRCA2 gene mutation, Lynch syndrome, hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 syndrome, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, familial atypical multiple mole melanoma syndrome and Ataxia-telangiectasia
- Age older than 60 years

Search Strategy For The Identification Of Studies
Electronic searches of the literature, published till September 2015, were conducted using PubMed database to identify articles reporting the pain management of pancreatic cancer.
Only trials describing pancreatic cancer pain management modalities were included. The year of publication of the article was not among the exclusion criteria. Search strategies employed included key words and Boolean operators described as follows: Pancreatic cancer and pain management. This search was augmented by a hand search of the reference lists of relevant articles included in the literature review. Two different investigators performed the search ML and HK and the abstracts were independently reviewed for possible inclusion.
Types of studies: Review articles, peer review articles and some ongoing trials evaluating pancreatic cancer pain management modalities were included in the review. The language of publication of eligible studies was restricted to English.
Signs Of Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer can have symptoms similar to viral hepatitis or gallstones, or no symptoms at all. Because of this, its often diagnosed after it has spread. Symptoms may include:
- Pain in the upper abdomen, often with pain in the back directly behind the upper abdomen

Research suggests that a sudden onset of type 2 diabetes in people age 50 or older may be an early symptom of pancreatic cancer, especially in those who have a low body mass index, experience continuous weight loss or do not have a family history of diabetes.

Pancreatic Cancer And Diabetes
Pancreatic cancer can cause diabetes. Common symptoms of diabetes are hunger, thirst and weight loss. Steve noticed that his vision had deteriorated. He also had leg cramps at night and he was very thirsty. He had recently had his eyes tested so was confused. He went to another optician, who referred him to an ophthalmologist. Meanwhile, Steve decided to have a blood test and a doctor diagnosed diabetes. Then Steve developed jaundice, and his skin became itchy. He had an ultrasound scan, which showed that a tumour in his pancreas had caused his diabetes.
What Are The Symptoms Of Pancreatic Cancer
Most people dont experience early signs of pancreatic cancer. As the disease progresses, however, people may notice:
- Upper abdominal pain that may spread to the back.
- Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes .
- New or worsening diabetes.
- Nausea and vomiting
Your healthcare provider might suspect pancreatic cancer if you have some symptoms and youve recently developed diabetes or pancreatitis a painful condition due to the inflammation of pancreas.

Cancer Research UK points out that cancer patients are more at risk of developing blood clots.
The charity points out that they can be a normal part of the cancer journey, are readily treatable and should not interfere with your cancer treatment.
However, it is very important that they are dealt with quickly.
Cancer Research UK said: A blood clot can be very serious if it moves through your body because it will end up causing a blockage in the blood supply to your lungs.
Most clots when diagnosed can be successfully treated so its important to report any symptoms to your doctor or nurse immediately.
